The safety of the Audi A3 Sedan and Audi S3 Sedan gained new top rating from the two most important arbiters of automotive safety in the U.S. market. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the two cars its highest overall crash safety rating, a 5-Star designation, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) chose the Audi A3 sedan as a Top Safety Pick +.
In December, the Audi models earned the highest crash-test rating available from the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program, which provides consumers with information about crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles beyond what is required by federal law. The vehicles are rated from 1 Star to 5 Stars.
- 5-star overall crash safety rating given by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP)
- NCAP Program provides consumers with information about crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles beyond what is required by Federal law
- The Audi A3 sedan is the only European premium compact segment model tested to receive a 5-star NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ rating
IIHS selected the Audi A3 as a Top Safety Pick +, its highest designation, for models equipped with the Audi pre sense front system. The system helps detect when the driver is making an emergency maneuver and prepares the vehicle and its occupant-restraint systems in advance of a possible collision. Pre sense front is part of the model’s Advanced Technology Package, which also includes Audi active lane assist and Audi adaptive cruise control with stop & go.
IIHS applies its highest distinction only to vehicles that have an available front-crash-prevention system as well as a good or acceptable rating in the organization’s challenging small-overlap front-crash test and a good rating in each of the Institute’s four other crashworthiness evaluations – moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints.
The Audi A3 and S3 offer several advanced technology features that are new to the entry-luxury sedan segment, including standard Audi pre sense basic. The technologies also include Audi secondary collision brake assist, which automatically brakes the car after a collision to prevent another collision with nearby or oncoming traffic.
